Step 1

We start out like always, first create a document 730 pixels  by 419 pixels with 72dpi. Now set the foreground color to #bce6d5 and the background color to #1c9991.

Step 2

Create a new layer, chose the Gradient Tool and select the Radial Gradient option. Now pull a line from the middle of the canvas towards the edge on the right. All you are left to do now is add a little noise, go to Filter / Noise / Add Noise and set the value at  0.6 pixels, now your background should look like this.

Step 3

Before we go any further, download and install the font Oh! Mai Mai! found in Free Fonts Friday Vol 12 or in the Download Assets area above.

Step 4

Chose the Oh Mai font with size 100pt, and write candy. If you haven’t downloaded the pattern from the Download Assets above, please do it now. Once it’s done, just double click on the .pat file, and it should be made available in Photoshop for use.

Step 5

All we are left to do now is to add the following blending options on the text layer:

Pattern Overlay
Drop Shadow
Inner Glow
Inner Shadow
Bevel

Step 6

Now we are going to add a bit of reflection, and we will start out by duplicating (Ctrl+J) the text layer. First remove the Drop Shadow style from our new layer. Now right click on it, from the layers palette, and from the presented options chose Rasterize Layer Style.

Step 7

Now flip the rasterized layer vertically, this is done by going to Edit / Transform / Flip Vertically. Once done move the reflection layer below the text layer, just like a reflection would appear.

Step 8

Select the Rectangular Marquee Tool, and make a selection from the bottom of the canvas up to the middle of the reflection layer. Right click on the selection and chose feather, after that add 30 pixels for radius . Once done, hit the delete button once, and change the blending mode of the layer to overlay and opacity to 40%.

Step 9

In order to make the shadow, first create a new layer, now hold ctrl and and click on the T icon of our text layer. This should make a selection around the content of the layer, in our case the text. Now fill the content with black color, and delete nearly two thirds of the layer. For reference use the image below, as it has outlined every step of this process. Now apply the Gaussian Blur filter with radius of 2px. You can do this by going to Filter / Blur / Gaussian Blur.  Now hit ctrl+t and flatten the shadow a bit, and again add Gaussian Blur with radius of 2 pixels.

Conclusion

This brings us to the end of this tutorial, feel free to download and check out the original source file below, also try to experiment with different colors and patterns. Keep in mind, if you are working with darker colors, you will need to make appropriate changes to the highlight inside Bevel & Emboss, plus the inner shadow and glow. I hope you had fun making this tutorial, and learned a thing or two in the process.

    Hy,
lovely tut. great techniques. However your pattern link download doesn’t work.
If it’s not available anymore maybe you could post a good substitute to it.
    Thanks :D
